STUDY IN USA
QUICK FACTS
Religion freedom is one of the United States’ basic ideals, as well as a guaranteed right under the US Constitution. Americans are generally more religious than those in other Western countries. More over half of those polled believe religion is very important in their lives. Individualism (a value that stresses independence, freedom of opinion, and self-reliance) is a value that Americans hold dear. However, some argue that sports are what truly unite Americans. Baseball, American football, basketball, ice hockey, and auto racing are all popular in the United States. The United States was ranked third on the United Nations’ (UN) list of the best nations to live in in 2012, behind Norway and Australia (i.e., the UN Human Development Index). There are 50 states, five territories, and one district that make up the United States of America. The climate in the United States varies depending on location and season. Its climate is mostly moderate (i.e. mild), but it can range from tropical in Hawaii and Florida to bitterly cold in Alaska, as well as severely dry and hot in the Southwest’s deserts. In the United States, there are six different time zones. With the exception of Hawaii and parts of Arizona, the majority of the United States observes Daylight Saving Time (DST)
THE UNITED STATES EDUCATION SYSTEM
In most college courses, students can obtain one of five grades (represented by letters), each of which grants the student different points per credit hour, which are then factored into the GPA computation (grade point average)
A is the highest grade (4 points).
B means the student did above average in the course (3 points).
C is the average passing grade (2 points).
D is the minimum passing grade (1 point).
F means the student failed the course (no credit, zero points).
Semester:This approach considers the year to fall under two semesters (16 weeks in fall, which begins in mid-August or September, and 16 weeks in spring, which begins in January, with a short winter break and a longer summer vacation.
Quarter: Here, the academic year is divided into three quarters, and the start date is usually late-September until mid-June
F - 1 STUDENT VISA
The F-1 Visa is for international students who are enrolled in a full course of academic study in a DHS-approved educational programme (Department of Homeland Security). Part-time study is only permitted with the agreement of the DSO (Designated School Official) in compliance with regulations; full-time study is required. By acquiring practical training authorisation, F-1 students can work in jobs that are closely relevant to their field of study. Practical training can be divided into two categories. Curricular Practical Training: This sort of job occurs before the completion of a degree programme and is an integral element of a specified curriculum. It necessitates DSO approval in SEVIS and on Form I-20. It is not necessary to have an EAD. Optional Practical Training: This type of job is available during or after your study. The total time spent on the job cannot exceed 12 months. STEM graduates working for an e-Verify firm are eligible for a 24-month extension. DSO approval and USCIS approval are necessary, as well as an EAD.
