Religion freedom is one of the United States’ basic ideals, as well as a guaranteed right under the US Constitution. Americans are generally more religious than those in other Western countries. More over half of those polled believe religion is very important in their lives. Individualism (a value that stresses independence, freedom of opinion, and self-reliance) is a value that Americans hold dear. However, some argue that sports are what truly unite Americans. Baseball, American football, basketball, ice hockey, and auto racing are all popular in the United States. The United States was ranked third on the United Nations’ (UN) list of the best nations to live in in 2012, behind Norway and Australia (i.e., the UN Human Development Index). There are 50 states, five territories, and one district that make up the United States of America. The climate in the United States varies depending on location and season. Its climate is mostly moderate (i.e. mild), but it can range from tropical in Hawaii and Florida to bitterly cold in Alaska, as well as severely dry and hot in the Southwest’s deserts. In the United States, there are six different time zones. With the exception of Hawaii and parts of Arizona, the majority of the United States observes Daylight Saving Time (DST)
